Volgens de legende zouden vrouwen uit een harem in Caltanissetta dit dessert hebben gecre\u00eberd als symbool van vruchtbaarheid. Hun buisvorm en zoetheid stonden symbool voor voorspoed en overvloed.  <\/p><p class=\"p1\">Oorspronkelijk werden de Cannoli bereid voor het carnaval, maar tegenwoordig zijn ze het hele jaar door te vinden in elke banketbakkerij op het eiland.
